Joining the list of artistes from Indore who venture into theatre and film industry is Gunjan Aras. This 21-year-old Commerce graduate from Indore has transcended language barrier and is now part of a South Indian film. She has landed a Kannada movie opposite Vijay Suriya. The budding actress says her passion for theatre and willingness to move away from the comfort zone of her home has helped her in achieving her dream.
She says, “I started performing with the local theatre group, Abhinav Rangmandal. There, I got a chance to hone my skills. Passion for acting took me to Mumbai. It was a struggle period for me, but I am happy I stuck to my decision.”
Gunjan has already acted in two movies, and will soon begin work on her next with the Kannada actor, which will be directed by Prakash Verna. “I feel extremely fortunate to get a chance to work with him. I shifted to Mumbai just this summer, and in this short period, catching the attention of people from the South is a big deal for me,” she quips.
Ask her if she thinks language will be a barrier for her, and she says, “No. I have a theatre background, and we’ve been taught to become the character instead of just playing it. So, I’m working on understanding the nuances of my character and preparing myself for this role.”
Though Gunjan refrained from giving out details of her character, we hear the film will be a comic drama. “I will be meeting Vijay Suriya only on the sets in the coming week in Bengaluru,” she signs off.
